Market segmentation for incentivising sustainable transport policies

This paper draws attention to the need for formulating tailored, sustainable transport policies considering heterogeneity in population regarding their preferences and attitudes. In this regard, we propose a market segmentation incentivising policies. Our analysis builds from responses of 1,041 car owners towards environmentally friendly alternatives survey issued five largest Colombian metropolitan areas: Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga. Using collected data, estimated Multiple Indicators Causes (MIMIC) model evaluate individual attitudes environment, green policies, use, technology. A cluster based on MIMIC results identified three groups: Traditionalists, Green Conscious All Matters. Results make contradiction between attachment environmental concern evident. The lower concern, higher car. However, differences Traditionalists Matters are less pronounced. Finally, proposed strategies heterogeneities each group, analysed implications developing custom-made actions marketing promoting interests characteristics targeted group population.
